SMS and WhatsApp pricing and prepaid balance
How much bulk SMS costs, what Meta charges for the WhatsApp Business API and how prepaid with no expiry works. Full rates on the pricing page.
How much does it cost to send bulk SMS in Spain?
At SMSverifica an SMS to Spain costs €0.039 per message of up to 160 characters, with no fees and no lock-in. The Spanish market ranges between €0.029 and €0.08 depending on volume and provider. With our prepaid model in euros you only pay for what you send and you can check the rate for each country by prefix in SMS prices by country before sending.
Does the SMSverifica prepaid balance expire?
No, never. Your prepaid balance remains available with no expiry date. On other platforms the balance does expire: 18 months at LabsMobile, according to its terms published as of July 2026, and 15 at another Spanish platform. We compare this in detail in the LabsMobile alternative and the Esendex alternative (in Spanish).
How much does the WhatsApp Business API cost in Spain?
Our price per message, by conversation category: service €0.005, utility €0.005, authentication €0.005 and marketing €0.005, with no monthly fee for the line and no set-up cost. Meta bills its conversation fees separately, to your own WhatsApp Business account, and to enable the channel you need a business account verified by Meta and a number of your own (Meta approves it and it usually takes several days). More details in WhatsApp Business API.
How much does it cost to send Telegram messages to customers?
€0.010 per message, almost four times less than an SMS to Spain. Telegram does not charge for messages sent by a bot, so that price is only our platform's. It is ideal for frequent notices, system alerts and internal notifications. Find out how in Telegram for business.
Are there monthly fees, a lock-in period or a minimum spend?
No. SMSverifica works with a prepaid balance in euros, no subscription, no lock-in and no minimums. You top up whenever you like and the balance never expires. We break down plans with a monthly fee and their break-even point in the Esendex alternative and the Instasent alternative (in Spanish).
How do I top up my balance and what invoice do I get?
You top up from the dashboard by card through a secure payment gateway. Every top-up automatically generates a Spanish invoice with VAT and sequential numbering, downloadable as a PDF: perfect for your accountant. You can also enable automatic top-up by threshold so you never run out of balance in the middle of a campaign.
Deliverability, senders and the CNMC 2026 registry
How to reach the inbox: alphanumeric sender, the new CNMC alias registry, SMS length and delivery confirmations.
Can I send SMS with my company name as the sender?
Yes, with an alphanumeric sender of up to 11 characters (for example, your brand name), which improves trust and the open rate compared with an unknown number. Important: since 15 September 2026 alphanumeric senders to Spain must be registered in the CNMC registry or the operators block them. The holder of the alias submits the registration on the CNMC's electronic office with a digital certificate: we tell you what to register and with what justification, but we do not submit the application on your behalf. The step-by-step guide, with screenshots, is in the user manual.
What is the CNMC SMS sender registry and how does it affect me in 2026?
It is a public registry of aliases (alphanumeric senders) created to combat smishing and brand impersonation by SMS. From 15 September 2026 Spanish operators block SMS with an unregistered alphanumeric sender. If you send SMS with your brand as the sender, you need to register it before that date. The holder of the alias themselves submits the registration on the CNMC's electronic office with a digital certificate, and it must list their operator as provider. ABARCANDO, S.L. is entered in the CNMC Register of Operators and authorised as a registered originating provider (PRO) in the Alias Registry: when you register your sender —or if you already have it registered— add ABARCANDO as provider and your SMS will go out with your brand in compliance with the registry. We tell you exactly what to register, with what justification, and we help you with the application if you need it. It is also good news: registered senders gain legitimacy against fraud.
How many characters does an SMS have?
160 characters with the GSM-7 alphabet, or 70 if the text includes Unicode characters (emojis or special symbols). Longer messages are sent concatenated in parts of 153 (GSM-7) or 67 (Unicode) characters, and each part is charged as one SMS. The dashboard shows you the number of parts before sending.
How do I know whether my SMS or WhatsApp message has been delivered?
Each message goes through statuses: queued → sent → delivered (and read on WhatsApp and Telegram) or failed with its error code. You see them in real time in the dashboard, you can query them through the API with GET /messages/{id} and you can receive them on your server through signed webhooks with automatic retries.
Why does SMSverifica approve accounts manually?
To keep the platform free of spam. A person reviews every sign-up and checks the intended use before activating it. We look for sending routes with a good reputation and senders that do not end up blocked by the operator. The brand name is no accident: verified accounts, messages that arrive.
WhatsApp Business API: templates, the 24-hour window and opt-in
The most common questions when connecting the WhatsApp Business API to send campaigns and notifications to customers.
What is the WhatsApp Business API and how does it differ from the WhatsApp Business app?
The API is Meta's official interface for connecting WhatsApp to your software, CRM or ERP: approved templates, bulk sending, multiple agents and automation, without a mobile phone. The WhatsApp Business app is free but limited to one device and to broadcasts of 256 contacts; the API is paid, has none of those limits and can be integrated with our REST API.
What are WhatsApp templates and why must they be approved?
They are messages with variables ({{1}}, {{2}}…) that Meta reviews and approves before you can send them to start a conversation outside the 24-hour window. They are classified by category (marketing, utility, authentication), which determines their price per message. Approval usually takes from minutes to hours, and you manage templates and variables from the dashboard.
What is the WhatsApp 24-hour window?
When a customer writes to you, a 24-hour window opens in which you can reply with free text at a reduced cost (service category). Once the window has passed, you can only start a conversation with an approved template. SMSverifica checks the window automatically: if you try free text outside it, the API returns a clear error (wa_outside_window) instead of failing silently.
Do I need consent (opt-in) to write to a customer on WhatsApp?
Yes. Meta's policies require the user's prior opt-in to receive messages from your company, and the GDPR and the LSSI require consent for commercial communications. Record the consent (website, form, ticked box) and always offer a simple way to opt out. We go into this further in the GDPR and LSSI guide for messaging (in Spanish).
Telegram for business: bots, chat_id and €0.010 per message
None of the Spanish platforms we compared in July 2026 offered Telegram as a channel. This is how ours works.
Can my company send Telegram messages to its customers?
Yes, through a Telegram bot of your own connected to SMSverifica. The only requirement is that the customer starts the conversation with your bot (for example, from a t.me/yourbot link on your website, an email or a QR code). From then on you can send them notifications, notices and campaigns by Telegram at €0.010 per message.
What is the Telegram chat_id and how do I get it?
It is the unique identifier of the conversation between your bot and each user, essential for sending them messages. SMSverifica captures it automatically: when the customer writes to your bot or taps /start, we store their chat_id and link it to their contact record, even by phone number if the user shares their contact. You simply send to the phone number or the contact, as always.
Why is Telegram the cheapest channel?
Because the Telegram bot API does not charge per message, unlike SMS operators or Meta on WhatsApp. What you pay —€0.010 per message— is only our platform: sending, statuses, campaigns, history and webhooks. In July 2026 we reviewed the published catalogue of the main Spanish providers (LabsMobile, Instasent, Esendex and other Spanish providers) and none of them offered Telegram as a channel.
REST API, signed webhooks, sandbox and idempotency
Developers' questions before integrating the multichannel messaging API: authentication, duplicates, statuses and limits.
How do I send my first message with the API?
Create your account, copy your API key (format sk_live_…) from the dashboard and make a POST /api/v1/messages with the X-Api-Key header and a JSON with channel, to (in E.164 format, +34…) and body. The response includes the message id and its status. With sandbox mode you test the call at no cost and without sending real messages:
curl -X POST https://app.smsverifica.com/api/v1/messages \
-H "X-Api-Key: sk_live_..." \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"channel":"sms","to":"+34612345678","body":"Hola desde la API"}'
What is the Idempotency-Key header and why does it prevent duplicates?
It is a unique key you send in POST /messages. If the request is repeated (network timeout, a retry in your code), the API detects the key and returns the original response instead of sending and charging for a second message. As of July 2026 no other provider analysed —not even Twilio— documents idempotency on sending: we compare this in the Twilio alternative (in Spanish).
What are signed webhooks and how do I verify the signature?
Every status change (message.sent, message.delivered, message.failed, message.read…) is sent to your URL with an HMAC signature calculated with your secret. By verifying it you guarantee that the notification comes from SMSverifica and has not been tampered with —something no Spanish provider offered as of July 2026—. If your server does not respond, we retry with increasing backoff and you can check the webhook delivery log in the dashboard.
What is the sandbox and how do I test the platform at no cost?
Sandbox mode simulates the complete cycle of sending and delivery without using balance or sending real messages: ideal for developing your integration, testing webhooks and validating templates. It is enabled per account and needs no card. Start with the sandbox →
What happens if I run out of balance?
The API responds with HTTP code 402 (insufficient_balance) and the message is not sent: there are never sends into the negative or surprises on the invoice. Enable automatic top-up by threshold and low-balance alerts so your sends are not interrupted.
What sending limits (rate limit) does the API have?
Each account has its own limit of requests per minute (60 by default), which can be raised according to your use case: ask for it from the dashboard or via contact. If you exceed it, the API responds 429 and you simply retry; with Idempotency-Key the retry is safe and without duplicates.
GDPR, LSSI, opt-outs and sending times
Sending commercial SMS and WhatsApp messages in compliance with the law is simple if you follow the rules. Complete guide in messaging and the GDPR/LSSI (in Spanish).
Is it legal to send promotional SMS in Spain?
Yes, with conditions: you need the recipient's prior express consent (art. 21 LSSI) or a prior contractual relationship regarding similar products or services, and you must always include a simple, free way to opt out. The Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) has fined sends without consent thousands of euros. All the details in the LSSI and GDPR guide for commercial SMS (in Spanish).
How do I manage opt-outs from my campaigns?
Write {BAJA} in the text of every commercial campaign: each recipient gets their own opt-out link and opts out with a single click. They go onto your account's opt-out list and campaigns always leave them out, at no cost, even if you import them again. Opt-outs that reach you another way —a phone call, an SMS reply saying “BAJA”— you add to that list yourself from the dashboard.
At what times is it advisable to send SMS or WhatsApp campaigns?
Good practice in Spain is to send commercial communications between 9:00 and 21:00, Monday to Friday, the same window that consumer rules impose on sales calls. Transactional messages (OTP codes, delivery notices, security alerts) can be sent whenever the service requires. In the dashboard you can schedule campaigns for the optimal window.
Where is the data hosted and do you sign a DPA?
The data is hosted on servers in the European Union and the processing complies with the GDPR and Spain's LOPDGDD. We sign a data processing agreement (DPA, art. 28 GDPR) with customers who require it, and your channel credentials (WhatsApp, Telegram) are stored encrypted in the database.
Account, manual approval and the QRACCESO / ACCESSTIME ecosystem
How verified sign-up works and what you can do by combining messaging with our sister platforms for QR access control and working-hours recording.
How long does my account approval take?
As long as the review takes. A person looks at every sign-up (company, intended use) as an anti-spam filter, and we would rather not publish a timeframe we cannot commit to. You will receive an email as soon as your account is active; in the meantime you can already explore the dashboard.
Can I try the platform without a card?
Yes. Registration is free and sandbox mode lets you test the API, the dashboard and the webhooks without entering a card and without spending balance. You only pay when you decide to top up to send real messages. Create your free account.
Can I send QR tickets, access codes or clock-in notices?
Yes. SMSverifica is a sister platform of QRACCESO (QR access control for events, with ticket validation and capacity control) and of ACCESSTIME (working-hours records). Typical cases for that combination: sending the QR ticket or accreditation by WhatsApp or SMS, notifying the host when their visitor arrives at reception, single-use access codes by SMS and automatic notices to employees who have not clocked in or HR reminders. All from the same account and the same balance. See the combined use cases →
